10 Ways to Make Your Eid Awesome
1. Plan Ahead
Plan your eid adventures days ahead of time, make sure you get everything you need including the clothes, the food and henna design for the girls. You don’t want to be running around last minute and ruin the important days before eid. If you are going to celebrate Eidul-Fitr, make sure to take advantage of the last 10 nights of Ramadan and Pay your Zakatul Fitr and If you are going to celebrate Eidul Adha, make sure to take advantage of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah.
2. Go to Prayer early with your family
There is nothing worse than starting your eid day by coming late to the eid prayer, missing out the takbeer, not finding good parking. Take all that hustle out of your eid and get everyone ready right after fajr and head to eid prayer while saying the takbeer in the car.
3. Give Gift to Each Other
Gifts make everyone happy, they don’t have to be expensive but as long as you give each other meaningful gifts, you will be having awesome eid. Also The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Exchange gifts, you will love one another.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari in al-Adab al-Mufrad. Ibn Hajar said: its isnaad is hasan.
4. Don’t over eat.
When you get home, you might be tempted by the amount of sweets you see on the table, I know you just finished Ramadan or you fasted the ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Make sure to keep your food intake moderate so you don’t get tired and go to sleep. If you are watching your diet and you don’t eat anything sweet, maybe give yourself a small break today because it comes around only two times in a year.
5. Have A Picnic With Your Family
There is nothing says Eid like a family picnic day. It doesn’t have to be “picnic” but having fun together as family, letting the kids enjoy and experience the fun. Keep it halal though, be careful of free-mixing. You can also let the elders tell stories, you can have the kids showcase their talent, for example, if there is kid who is hafith quran, let him recite, if there is girl who is good with nasheed, let her do her nasheed. Just have fun and always remember Allah.
6. Visit Your Neighbors and Friends
If you live in the western countries, its easy to forget your neighbors, but as Muslims we should always get to know our neighbors even if they are not Muslims. Invite them to your house or give them a gift, make their day better. Call your friends and invite them as well or organize get together.
7. Call Your Relatives
We might forget our relatives through out the year, but don’t forget to call all of them in the eid day, ask them about their lives, what they doing for eid, send them gift if you can. Also make your new year resolution to keep close tie with your relatives since its required in our religion.
8. Go to the community event/picnic
Its very likely that your community is having get together day after eid, take that day off and take the kids out. Meet with the people you haven’t seen for long time in the community. Be part of the activities, create memories with families and friends, volunteer your time. Be active in the community.
9. If you can, take a week off from your job
I know that work is important but I’m sure if you ask them nicely, they will give you at least a week off for your holiday. Make sure to mention that this is like our christmas and it only comes around twice a year. If they don’t give you a week, make the most of the days you have.
10. And don’t forget Allah’s praise.
Yes, the eid day is fun day, but what is fun without the remembrance of Allah? Start your day with the takbeer and end it with the takbeer. Revolve your day around remembrance of Allah.
