Following These 7 Tips will Help You Memorize the Qur’an!
As you have seen, memorizing the quran is really not an easy one, but you should know that Allah says in the Quran
“And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?”
You Will Need
Quran in Arabic
A teacher or someone help you to learn
Know basic arabic reading and writing
Know the meaning of what you memorized
Read it everyday
Have Wudu (Ablution) when reading
1. Intention (Niyah)
Whatever we do, Niyah (Intention) is the key. Sometime we memorize the quran because we want to challenge the people, but this kind of niyah will not let you memorize the quran because the quran is the words of allah and allah will not let his words be used for a wrong purpose.
We start reading the quran and want to memorize it but things come up and we get busy. Are you the person who gives up or do you keep reading it no matter what happens? Commitment is the key to memorizing the qur’an and you should know that it’s better to memorize little by little than memorizing pages or Hizb, because you will over burden yourself and give up easily.
3. Beat the Shaydaan
Have you ever started reading the Quran and suddenly you start yawning out of nowhere? Yes, that is right, it is the shaydan (satan) who makes you feel bored because he doesn’t want you to gain reward by reading the Quran. Stay strong and keep reading.
4. Got A Teacher?
We know that without a teacher, we can’t really learn the Qur’an as much as someone who has a teacher. Allah (SWT) sent Gabriel to prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) so he can be a teacher for him and that is clear in the Seerah (Biography) of the Prophet (pbuh) when he was in cave Qaru-Hira and Angel Gabriel came to him and ordered him to recite the name of his Lord. So go to your local Masjid and ask them if they have Qur’an learning sessions.
5. I memorized, now what?
Now comes the hard part. It is keeping it after you put in lots of effort to memorize it. But there are things that can help you.
1. Recite what you memorized in your prayers.
2. Keep reciting it even when you are working and doing your everyday routine.
3. Teach it, because teaching is learning twice
4. Go further into other aspects of Qur’an such as tafseer and other Qir’ats
6. You sin, and it will leave, simple as that!
That’s right! you can’t really have the words of Allah in your heart, while you keep sinning. I know we can’t stop sinning all at once, we are human and we are made to sin, but the person I am talking about is the one when he sins, doesn’t feel any guilt and doesn’t repent at all. That is the person who will lose any Qur’an he has in his heart.
7. Acting Upon It
What is the point of memorizing the Quran if your actions are like those kuffars on the TV and those singers, whom the Qur’an told where they will end up. Once Aisha (ra) was asked about the characteristics of the prophets (pbuh), and she said “His character complied with the Qur’an.” so the Qur’an is complete instruction for you to do what Allah has asked you to do. And the worst person is the one who knows the Qur’an and turns away from it.
May Allah make us those who learn and act upon the Quran…ameen
